The First Appearance of Bluetooth 4.0 in Construction

The key for a successful construction project has many features which include the information about tools and equipments used in the project and protection of employees from accidents. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is being used for more than a decade to track the tools, materials and equipments whereas Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to trace the location of vehicles which are coming out and coming in to the job area.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Bluetooth 4.0 technology can be said as the newest technology and a bonus addition in old technologies which provides the construction tracking system with variety of assets. Bluetooth 4.0 technique provides with enhanced abilities of logging and monitoring on the site and is involved in improving the health and safety.

Bluetooth Low Energy can be deployed in many locations as compared to GPS which does not work under the ground and indoor regions and RFID which has a limited range. BLE is more flexible and proves to be an efficient tool for uniting the technologies. Bluetooth 4.0 has an ability to accurately track the assets and check the workers.

It has some extra features which allow its integration into legacy back end systems by sending of an audio file or contents to all the connected mobiles. Approximately 80% of all mobile devices are able to get connected to the BLE. Bluetooth 4.0 has been adopted by iOS, androids and Windows Operating Systems.

BLE is becoming the technology of choice day by day as it has a low cost and uses less power with the reliable and robust communication. Iknaia, which is a UK company, has recently combined BLE and Wi-Fi to make it more robust in action. Iknaia’s beacon can present their sites to detectors and detectors connect to the mobile devices and send the content which is specific to device based on the proximity.
