SawStop - A High-tech Portable Saw to reduce Injuries & Fears

Steve Gass who is the inventor of SawStop, is taking your product to next level by introducing table saws. Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) officials got inspired by this product by thus watching the video in which Steve Gass’s hands were spared of injury by using this technology. The school board officials spent an investment of 45000 dollars on nine SawStops to ensure high level security.

The health and safety specialists of WECDSB told that their old equipments required up-gradation and repairmen. This was about to cost 2000$ to 3000$ per equipment, so they planned to buy the new technology for sawing. During the last semester one of the students in school accidentally put his hand in blade and was about to cut his finger. The board ultimately planned to replace the blades and aluminum safety cartridge. With the addition of this technology, students are no more afraid of working with saws.

This technology is being called as one of the best advancements in wood working in many years. Steve Gass is a doctorate in physics and is himself a wood worker. He used his academic background to develop the cartridge that is able to absorb 1000 Gs forces which is required to stop the blades that are working at the speed of 5000 revolutions per minute.

Principle of electromagnetism is used for triggering of the cartridge. The human body conducts electricity, so as the computer attached to the saw detects the decrease in electric current in blade, it stops the blade as a safety mechanism. Decrease in electric current is associated with the jumping of electricity to hand or human so close.
