Technology : New Magnetic Elevator Features

The new design for lifts that can move horizontally as well as vertically has been added in Willy Wonka’s glass elevator. These lifts promise the users to not let them wait for more than 30 seconds.

Cable hoisted elevators have been branded by ThyssenKrupp which is a German company. This company had launched the design including system of compact elevators which can be controlled by powerful magnets. ThyssenKrupp’s multi system of elevators will allow the moving of several cabins in just one shaft.

The architects will be able to design unconventional and outrageous shaped buildings with a newly designed elevator core with much freedom only if the industry adopts the new technologies at faster pace.

This design of elevators ensure that every cabin will be self propelled and can move in any direction whether upward, downward or sideward but will remain connected and in a loop. The shafts will be of half the actual size but will be able to accommodate large number of passengers.

Commonly used traditional lift shafts have height limits as they have to be spread out for providing services to very tall buildings whereas the designed rope free system for lift shafts is independent of the building height. As there will be multiple units in just one system, this will provide the developers with almost 40% more usable place on a particular floor.

The company says that the lift which travels at the rate of 5 meter per second will take less than one minute to reach any destination. Andreas Schierenbeck, the chief executive of ThyssenKrupp Elevator system said that with the changing nature of building constructions, the nature of elevators should also be changed so that it suits to the requirement of building and high number of passengers. As explained by chief executive, it is a proud moment for company that it designs two dimensional shafts with more than one cabin and has evolved from one dimensional shaft.

Linear motor technology is the magnetic system which will drive the design. This system was first invented for use on Transrapid which is a German Highspeed monorail train working with magnetic levitation.

The cabin will be able to stop with multi level brake system and there will be a motor associated with every cabin which will drive it both horizontally as well as vertically. ThyssenKrupp is known in the world as one of the largest steel producers. The company has a plan for a trial of first unit in 2016 which will be integrated on a test tower known as Rottweil in Germany after its claim of launching of first ever rope free elevator system. Another design which is for cable less lifts has been patented by American firm Magnemotion.
