Drones Impact : The “Golden” State or the “Robotics” State?

California is the epicenter for cutting edge robotics technology. No longer creating robots for hobbies, California companies are poised to take robotics to the next level and peddle their wares to expanding industries, like construction.

Drone Robotics of Beverly Hills, CA, is looking to promote its “Alpha Robot” within the construction industry. The robot is designed to do chores that are too difficult or impossible for humans to perform, collect data and take photos of a jobsite. This robot also is projected to have a 3-prong benefit with its use:

• To minimize manual labor and costs.
• To increase productivity.
• To reduce workplace injuries.

Another company, Skycatch.com, according to Constructech, has shaped an autonomous data-capture key that can gather information related to maps, thermal imaging, measurements and more. Yet, another company, 3D Robotics in Berkeley, CA. according to Constructech, announced the acquisition of Sifteo, a consumer electronics company that has developed a few technologies for low-latency wireless communication, high-performance embedded computation, and sensor fusion and virtualization techniques. Many of these companies plan to take their solutions into the marketplace, at large and expand to hospitals, retail and warehouses, to boot.

What was a mere consideration a few years back in the robotics industry is quickly becoming a real and present possibility for the construction industry. Constructech is on top of the game and is hosting Constructech Technology Day, Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Sofitel, San Francisco Bay.
