100 Resilient Cities Challenge: Next 35 Cities to Join

Next group of cities which will be the part of 100 Resilient Cities Challenge has been announced recently by Rockefeller foundation. The Rockefeller foundation is known in the whole world for preparing the countries for economic, physical and social challenges which they may face in 21st century. 90 countries from six continents had applied with 350 applications. After reviewing all the applications, the foundation selected and announced 35 cities which will join the 32 cities that were announced last year.

The selected cities will be lectured for a large number of challenges including flood, extreme weather conditions, and strains of infrastructure and health department and stress on economy. The list of selected cities has been announced in a press release.

Michael Berkowitz, the president of 100 Resilient Cities, had said in opening Chief Resilience Officer Summit in the city New Orleans that one has to think in holistic terms when imagining about the making of resilient cities. He also told that building of resilience in cities is a multi sector task which implies multi level of enterprises.

Every city which is selected by the Rockefeller Foundation will be provided with funds to hire a Chief Resilience Officer and an assistance that will help in developing of the resilience strategy and implementing on the strategy.

The cities which are selected include Kigali, Enugu, Arusha and Accra from Africa, Santiago, Santiago de los Caballeros, Santa Fe, San Juan, Juarez and Kali from Latin America and the Carribbean, Athens, Barcelona, Belgrade, London, Lisboa, Milan, Paris and Thessaloniki from Europe, Amman from Middle East, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Montreal, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Tulsa from North America, Sydney and Wellington City from Oceania and Bengaluru, Chennai, Deyang, Huangshi, Phnom Penh, Singapore and Toyama from Asia.
