Roofing quantity takeoff is the process of taking off each material required in the roofing of the project.

This list is generated by analysis of a blueprint or other design document. The list of required materials for construction is sometimes referred to as the material take off list.

This can amount to countless hours of calculation, driving back and forth to potential jobsites and even climbing up and down roofs that you never work on.

However accurate roof estimates can be accomplished quite simply from the ground, or even over the phone or via e-mail if you are supplied with few simple dimensions and pictures.

Material take off is a term used in engineering and construction, and refers to a list of materials with quantities and types (such as specific grades of steel) that are required to build a designed structure or item.

Roof estimate can be done by starting the process as - Draw a simple roof diagram, marking all pitch changes, valleys, ridge and hip lines, chimneys, vent pipes and other penetrations.

Then measure all exterior wall sections from corner to corner, adding in any roof overhangs or bump-outs. Put these dimensions in their place on the diagram. Calculate all the slopes. Calculate roof size. Calculate material.

And finally arriving at accurate & profitable roof estimate.

Doing all the calculations manually seems tiresome and time consuming. Using a Roofing Quantity Takeoff spreadsheet here can provide immense benefits to estimators, homebuilders and building material suppliers.

This contains a database which includes all roofing products which can be applied in takeoffs as well as attributes of each material. There also exists waste factors and price additive to be used with the calculated quantities.
